Workshop Description
Public speaking is not just about delivering a polished presentation. It requires understanding your audience, preparing in a way that builds confidence, creating opportunities for engagement, and knowing how to adjust when your audience needs something different.
This interactive workshop will help you strengthen your public speaking and facilitation skills through practical preparation techniques, adult learning principles, and real time adjustment strategies. You will explore how to structure presentations, use scripts and outlines effectively, adapt examples and activities for different audiences, and practice speaking in a supportive, low pressure environment.
You will also learn how to recognize signals that an audience is confused, disengaged, energized, or emotionally activated and respond without losing sight of your purpose. The workshop introduces a practical Notice, Verify, Diagnose, Adjust, and Re-anchor framework for making thoughtful adjustments while maintaining alignment with your objectives.
Whether you are presenting to a team, training staff, speaking to donors, pitching an idea, or facilitating a group, you will leave with practical tools to prepare more effectively, manage nerves, connect with your audience, and speak with greater confidence and authenticity.

What the Training Will Cover
Apply adult learning principles to public speaking and facilitation by connecting content to audience experience, relevance, motivation, and real world application.
Use practical preparation strategies to build confidence including audience analysis, presentation structure, rehearsal, timing, scripting, and outlining.
Select and use scripts, outlines, and conversational structures based on the purpose, audience, content, and level of support needed.
Recognize and respond to audience signals in real time by identifying shifts in engagement, confusion, participation, emotional energy, and psychological safety.
Make effective adjustments while maintaining the purpose of the presentation by diagnosing what is happening, selecting an appropriate facilitation response, and re-anchoring participants to the intended objective.
Use practical techniques to manage nervousness and strengthen confidence, including positive self-talk, visualization, breathing, physical grounding, and progressive practice.

Each workshop session is live. Registrants receive slides & handouts. It is expected participants will be able to be on camera and able to unmute for some portions of the training to participate in discussions. Full recordings are not provided. About the Trainer
This training is led by Dr. Leah Weiner who has a doctorate in education and psychology from Pepperdine University. Leah Weiner is the Founder and CEO of the Nonprofit Learning Lab. Leah’s approach to training focuses on making sure that the information provided helps participants solve a problem or create a solution related to their professional work. Leah’s background in trauma informed facilitation came through experiences in working with recently resettled refugees at a refugee resettlement agency and facilitating leadership development programs for adults across the country. These experiences led her to teach facilitators on trauma informed facilitation.
