Workshop Description
AI is showing up in nonprofit boardrooms whether we've planned for it or not — and most conversations will start from fear or fine print. This workshop offers a different starting point: a four-layer framework that treats AI as something that can actually make your organization stronger, not just something to lock down or hope will go away. We'll walk through purpose as the front door, board-level governance that looks after both your people and your mission, privacy and compliance, and how it all rolls out across the organization. Instead of another risk-management checklist, this is about using AI to tackle real problems — like staff burnout — while keeping dignity and mission at the center. This session is built for boards and senior leaders thinking about how to respond to AI while also managing everything else in the organization!
Who Should Attend
Nonprofit leaders preparing their organizations to use AI thoughtfully, responsibly, and strategically.
What the Training Will Cover
Use the Purpose Filter to evaluate AI decisions through the lenses of staff wellbeing and mission impact, and make thoughtful decisions when those priorities compete.
Explain how leading with purpose rather than risk changes conversations about AI adoption and influences decision making across leadership, staff, funders, and other stakeholders.
Understand how effective AI governance balances external responsibilities, such as protecting donor, client, and organizational data and maintaining compliance, with internal responsibilities, including supporting staff, fostering psychological safety, and ensuring AI aligns with organizational values.
Assess your organization's current approach to AI across the four layers of the framework and identify the most important opportunities to strengthen responsible implementation.
